Central News Agency (New Taipei, June 2) - Recently, a fraud group has been impersonating the Chief and Division Heads of the New Taipei City Public Works Bureau, leaving fake LINE accounts in an attempt to steal personal information. The Bureau filed a police report today and urged the public to remain vigilant, advising them to call the 165 anti-fraud hotline for verification if they encounter suspicious activity. The New Taipei City Public Works Bureau stated today that it has recently received reports from citizens and vendors that unidentified individuals claiming to be the Bureau Chief have called to inquire about projects executed by partner vendors. Others have impersonated division heads, requesting callbacks and leaving fake LINE accounts under the guise of discussing official business. The fraud group attempts to gain trust by using the names of agency heads, then uses communication software to make further contact, taking the opportunity to obtain personal information, contact details, or engage in other fraudulent activities. Bureau Chief Feng Chao-lin stated that upon learning of the situation, he immediately notified vendors to be on high alert and filed a report with the New Taipei City Police Department today. He reminded the public that fraud tactics are constantly evolving, urging them to be vigilant, not to add unknown LINE accounts, and not to provide personal information. He emphasized the anti-fraud concept: 'One more verification, one less risk.'
