The Taiwan Centers for Disease Control (CDC) announced on June 2nd a new local measles case involving a man in his 20s in northern Taiwan. The individual is a housemate of a previously reported imported case from Thailand, and the incident is being treated as a cluster. A total of 491 contacts have been identified and will be monitored until June 16th. According to CDC statistics, there have been 11 confirmed measles cases in Taiwan this year, including 8 imported cases and 3 local infections. The CDC emphasized that vaccination is the most effective way to prevent measles and advised adults born in or after 1966 who plan to travel to endemic areas to consult with a travel medicine clinic for MMR vaccination 2 to 4 weeks before departure.
