An Air Force T-34 trainer crashed this morning at the Gangshan Air Base while performing simulated engine failure training, resulting in the deaths of pilots Kuo Chun-nan and Lu Chi-yu. Their bodies arrived at the Kaohsiung Municipal Funeral Home after 2:00 PM, where prosecutors and forensic experts conducted an examination. The T-34 trainer (tail number 3414) crashed at the north end of the runway at 8:08 AM while being operated by Lieutenant Colonel Kuo Chun-nan and Lu Chi-yu. Following the accident, Kuo was trapped in the cockpit, while Lu was found on the grass beside the runway. After the military and the Ciao-Tou District Prosecutors Office completed evidence collection, the bodies were transported to the funeral home. The Kaohsiung City Civil Affairs Bureau stated that it would assist the families with funeral arrangements and provide necessary care. Lu was a resident of Sanmin District, Kaohsiung, and is survived by his wife, a son, and a daughter. Kuo was a resident of Nanzi District, Kaohsiung, and is survived by his wife.
