(Central News Agency reporter Xiao Boyang, Nantou County, 3rd) The Nantou County Government, in collaboration with UPE Corporation, has transformed an abandoned vacant lot next to Caotun Elementary School in Caotun Township into 'Yufeng Park.' The park features a leaf compost area that can serve as a habitat for stag beetle larvae, allowing students to observe ecology, and has added lighting for residents to relax and take evening walks.

To improve the green space next to Caotun Elementary School, the Nantou County Government promoted an air quality purification zone adoption mechanism. UPE Corporation invested NT$5 million in maintenance and environmental adoption. Through spatial reorganization, improvement, and greening, they created a green space with landscape, leisure, and environmentally friendly functions, naming it Yufeng Park. The county government held an inauguration ceremony today.

Nantou County Deputy Magistrate Wang Ruei-de stated that this 0.4-hectare green space had been abandoned for over a decade after initial landscaping. The replanting and greening not only provide ecological education for Caotun Elementary School students but also serve as an excellent leisure and walking spot for nearby residents. He thanked UPE Corporation for fulfilling its corporate ESG理念 by investing NT$5 million in improvements and adding night lighting, calling it a model of government-private sector collaboration in environmental maintenance.

Caotun Elementary School Principal Chen Zhao-ming said that Yufeng Park's leaf compost area aligns with the elementary school's natural science curriculum. It also gives children the opportunity to see the compost area become a habitat for stag beetle larvae and other insects, and to observe butterflies fluttering, gradually forming an ecological zone. He believes these small surprises will bring students more learning experiences, and the school will cooperate with the Yufeng Village office to maintain the environment.

The Nantou County Environmental Protection Bureau stated that the Yufeng Park green space was originally the second campus of Caotun Elementary School and was once school dormitories. After Pingdeng Street was opened, it was used as a park. In the past, it became a community blight due to overgrown weeds. After reorganization, it has become a clean, bright, and comfortable leisure green space. New lighting has also been added to enhance nighttime safety and environmental ambiance, making it a new space for residents to take evening walks. (Editor: Li Hengshan) 1150603
