(Central News Agency, Pingtung County, June 3) Pingtung County and Broward County, Florida, USA, signed a sister-county agreement and an MOU today, agreeing to deepen exchanges in areas such as promoting trade cooperation, enhancing educational interaction, and advancing environmental sustainability. The ceremony was held today at the Pingtung County Government. Broward County Mayor Mark D. Bogen traveled to Taiwan and, together with Pingtung County Magistrate Chou Chun-mi, signed the sister-county agreement and MOU. The two sides will promote economic and trade cooperation, foster commercial development and industrial exchanges, deepen educational, cultural, and tourism interactions, and advance cooperation on environmental sustainability and climate resilience. During the meeting, Magistrate Chou stated that although Pingtung County and Broward County are located on opposite sides of the Pacific Ocean, they share many similarities, including beautiful natural environments and a shared emphasis on technological innovation, industrial development, and democratic values. The formal signing of the MOU symbolizes a new milestone in the friendship between the two regions. In the future, they will deepen cooperation in commerce, education, technology, and tourism, strengthening their mutual connections. They will also promote youth and student exchanges, allowing children in Pingtung to expand their international horizons and showcasing Pingtung's vitality and potential to the world. Mayor Bogen noted that Broward County's residents come from over 150 countries and speak more than 100 languages, making it a highly diverse and internationally distinctive city. He stated that the signing of this MOU is an important starting point for economic and cultural exchanges between the two sides, and he looks forward to more cooperation opportunities with small and medium-sized enterprises and civil groups in the county. The Pingtung County Government stated that this is the first visit of a Broward County delegation to Pingtung. It hopes to use the sister-county relationship as a starting point to build a long-term, mutually beneficial international partnership and continue to promote substantive cooperation in areas such as sustainable development, industrial innovation, and cultural tourism.
