Kaohsiung Companies Donate YouBike Stations to Build Green Commuting Environment in Industrial Park

(Central News Agency reporter Cai Mengyu, Kaohsiung, 3rd) The Kaohsiung City Transportation Bureau and the Economic Ministry's Industrial Park Administration today joined hands with companies in the Nanzih Technology Industrial Park, including major companies like ASE Group (Advanced Semiconductor Engineering), to donate YouBike vehicles and stations, helping to create a green commuting environment in the park. This public-private collaboration aims to build Taiwan's first "Net-Zero Industrial Park."

In response to "World Bicycle Day" on June 3, the Kaohsiung City Transportation Bureau and the Economic Ministry's Industrial Park Administration held a press conference today. They partnered with companies in the Nanzih Technology Industrial Park, including flagship companies like ASE Group, to donate YouBike vehicles and stations, creating a green commuting environment in the park.

Wu Shufang, a section chief at the Economic Ministry's Industrial Park Administration, said that in addition to reducing carbon emissions from their own manufacturing processes, the carbon emissions generated by employee commuting are also a challenge faced by major factories. By promoting the "Green Commuting and Net-Zero Project" with the Transportation Bureau, they aim to improve the convenience of employee commuting and contribute to environmental sustainability.

Kaohsiung City Transportation Bureau Director Zhang Shujuan stated that with the rising awareness of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, green transportation has become an international trend. The Transportation Bureau is taking this opportunity to comprehensively review the transfer network around the Nanzih Technology Industrial Park, strengthening the connection between the MRT, buses, and YouBike to improve commuting needs.

Zhang said that 13 stations have already been established in the park, attracting an average of 18,000 users per month. In the future, they will continue to increase the density of YouBike stations to alleviate traffic congestion during peak commuting hours. At the same time, they aim to make "green commuting" a daily reality for tens of thousands of park employees.

The Transportation Bureau stated that to help companies quantify their carbon reduction achievements, this collaboration introduced the "YouBike Carbon Reduction Passbook" app. This app completely records the carbon reduction data from employees' YouBike rides, helping companies quantify their carbon reduction results.

The Transportation Bureau stated that ASE Group has taken the lead by donating YouBike stations and vehicles. They welcome more companies to respond by donating YouBike stations and vehicles. Companies can apply to the Transportation Bureau. After a site inspection and feasibility assessment, Smile Bike (YouBike operator) will complete the station setup. The three parties will then hand over the stations to the city government for overall management and maintenance.

The Transportation Bureau invited citizens to join the "YouBike Carbon Reduction Passbook" initiative. Citizens can use the app to check their personal carbon reduction achievements from riding YouBike at any time. Smile Bike has also launched a "Ride Regularly, Win Monthly" campaign.
