(Central News Agency, Tainan, June 3) In response to a new regulation for elderly driver license renewal that took effect on May 31, Tainan City held its first "One-Stop License Renewal Service for Drivers Aged 70 and Above" today. According to city government statistics, nearly 95,000 people aged 70 and above in Tainan are required to renew their licenses by the end of this year.

The first service was held at the Dafengli Activity Center in North District, Tainan. It provides a one-stop service model that combines physical examination, safety education, and license renewal procedures for elderly citizens.

Furthermore, 11 administrative districts including East District, Central-West District, and Longqi District have planned a total of 15 promotional seminars in the first phase. The city aims to hold at least one promotional and service event in each of its 37 districts by the end of the year, bringing the renewal service to every administrative area.

The city government explained that drivers aged 70 and above can choose to renew or surrender their licenses based on their own physical and mental assessment. If they choose to renew, they must complete the required physical examination and safety education procedures. The renewed license will be valid until the driver turns 75.

The city government noted that if elderly drivers choose to voluntarily surrender their licenses, they can apply for a Senior Citizen Card to use public transportation. Starting the following month, they will receive a 50% rebate on their transportation fares for a period of two years, with a maximum monthly rebate of NT$1,500. This encourages seniors to make good use of public transportation resources.

The city government stated that it will cooperate with the central government's policy on elderly license renewal, continuing to strengthen traffic safety through engineering, education, and law enforcement to improve the road environment and traffic order, thereby reducing the risk of traffic accidents.
