(Central News Agency, Taichung, June 4) The Taichung Metro Green Line experienced a signal failure this evening, causing a 42-minute delay across the entire line and forcing one train to stop outside Wenxin Forest Park Station before being manually driven into the station. This marks the 5th malfunction for the Taichung Metro in the past six months.

The Taichung Metro Corporation stated in a press release that a signal failure occurred between the Shuian Gong Station and Nantun Station on the Green Line at 6:44 PM this evening, causing delays for trains in both directions and stopping one train outside Wenxin Forest Park Station.

The company stated that after the signal failure occurred, the station master of Wenxin Forest Park Station boarded the train at 6:49 PM and manually drove it into the station. The train then continued operating at a slow speed to minimize the impact on passengers while prioritizing safety.

The company noted that normal operations resumed across the entire line at 7:26 PM, with a total delay of 42 minutes. The Taichung Metro Corporation expressed its deepest apologies for the inconvenience caused to commuters and reminded affected passengers that they can apply for a refund within 7 days. The company also stated it will quickly investigate the cause and make improvements.

Including today's incident, this is the 5th malfunction for the Taichung Metro in the past six months, sparking discussion on social media platforms. As the Taichung Metro Green Line also experienced a delay due to a signal system malfunction just the day before, on June 3, the Democratic Progressive Party's caucus in the Taichung City Council immediately demanded a thorough investigation into the cause of the malfunction and an explanation of the progress of the handling.
