(Central News Agency reporter He Xiuling, Taipei 4th) Contact lens manufacturers Wanlun and Pegavision announced their May revenues. Benefiting from increased demand for silicone hydrogel products and overseas market growth, Wanlun's May revenue hit a record high for the same period, while Pegavision posted its second-highest monthly revenue. Both companies are optimistic about the peak season effect in the second half of the year, with silicone hydrogel products continuing to be the main growth driver.
Wanlun announced today that its May revenue was NT$380 million, an increase of 33.1% year-on-year, setting a new record for the same period. Cumulative revenue for the first five months of this year was NT$1.83 billion, an increase of 32.55% year-on-year, also a record high for the same period. Wanlun pointed out that order growth continues to be strong, and end-consumer demand for cosmetic contact lenses and functional lenses remains robust, leading to significant overall revenue growth.
Wanlun stated that it is continuing to expand production capacity in both Taiwan and China this year, with new capacity expected to come online gradually in the second half of the year to meet orders from markets including Japan, China, and Taiwan. Shipments of silicone hydrogel lenses in the second quarter will inject strong momentum into the Japanese market.
In the Chinese market, in response to the e-commerce 618 shopping festival and the successive launch of new cosmetic contact lens products, customer orders continue to increase. In the Taiwan market, in addition to its subsidiaries' expansion into various channels, shipments of new cosmetic contact lens products are ramping up. Overall, Wanlun maintains an optimistic outlook on the demand for contact lenses in the second half of the year and the company's development.
Wanlun indicated that starting this year, silicone hydrogel products will be shipped in volume to markets including China, Japan, the United States, and Taiwan. With the continued contribution of new customers and new products, the company expects its revenue growth rate this year to potentially surpass that of last year.
Another major contact lens manufacturer, Pegavision, reported May revenue of NT$716 million, an increase of approximately 37% year-on-year, marking its second-highest monthly revenue. Pegavision stated that May benefited from the continued strong performance of its silicone hydrogel products in the Japanese and European markets.
Pegavision's cumulative revenue for the first five months was NT$3.28 billion, an increase of 22.2% year-on-year, setting a new record for the same period. Pegavision pointed out that the second half of the year will usher in the peak season. In particular, silicone hydrogel products, which have been developed for a long time and for which relevant certifications are gradually being obtained, will remain the main driver. The company will also continue to increase its penetration rate in the Japanese and European markets and is optimistic about its operational performance in the second half of the year.
Contact lens materials include two types: hydrogel and silicone hydrogel. Hydrogel lenses are comfortable to wear but tend to dry out with prolonged use. Silicone hydrogel lenses have a stronger foreign body sensation but offer higher oxygen permeability and are less prone to dryness. The two types are suitable for different wearing durations.
