(Central News Agency, Frankfurt, 4th, Combined Foreign News) German airline Lufthansa said the nose landing gear of one of its Boeing 787 passenger jets unexpectedly collapsed at a gate at Frankfurt Airport on Tuesday, injuring several ground crew members who are now receiving treatment.

Bloomberg News first reported the incident. A Lufthansa spokesperson said in an emailed statement that crew members and ground staff were on board at the time of the accident, but "passengers had not yet boarded."

A Reuters photographer saw multiple emergency vehicles surrounding the twin-engine widebody jet, with part of the aircraft's fuselage resting on the ground.

Lufthansa stated the accident occurred at 12:45 p.m. local time (6:45 p.m. Taiwan time). The aircraft was scheduled to operate flight LH450 to Los Angeles.

"We are working with the relevant authorities to investigate the exact circumstances of the incident," Lufthansa said.

The affected Boeing 787-9 is a relatively new aircraft for Lufthansa, which is planning to phase out less efficient planes and streamline its fleet structure.

A Boeing spokesperson said the company is aware of the incident and is assisting its customer, but did not provide further details.
