The Hualien County Government's Tourism Department has announced that this year, it will collaborate with the popular anime 'One Piece' to create a waterfront adventure scene at Liyu Lake. A giant 15-meter-wide 'Thousand Sunny' will be docked there, and six classic characters including Luffy will also appear in Hualien, in hopes of revitalizing post-disaster tourism.

The Hualien County Government holds the 'Hualien Fun Summer' series of events annually at the Shoufeng Township's Liyu Lake Scenic Area. This year, for the first time, it has obtained the One Piece license. The large Thousand Sunny installation art will be docked at Liyu Lake from July 11 to August 16, combined with water dance and lighting technology shows.

Six classic characters—Luffy, Nami, Chopper, Sanji, Zoro, and Usopp—will appear as 3D figures distributed across multiple scenic spots in Hualien, paired with a 'One Piece Treasure Hunt' game. This allows visitors to explore Hualien in depth and receive gifts upon completing tasks.

Tourism Director Yu Ming-hsun stated that the event is different from the One Piece exhibition in New Taipei City. All characters have been redesigned and produced. The Thousand Sunny is 15 meters wide, and visitors can stand on the deck for close-up photos. It is expected to become the widest Thousand Sunny installation art in Taiwan.

The Hualien County Government noted that One Piece author Eiichiro Oda promoted the 'ONE PIECE Kumamoto Revitalization Project' after the 2016 Kumamoto earthquake. Hualien has suffered severe damage to its tourism industry from natural disasters in recent years, and the government hopes to boost local tourism and reconstruction energy through the Straw Hat Pirates characters.
