(Central News Agency, reporter Li Jianzhong, Taipei, June 4) Chiu Bing-kuei, the newly elected President of the Chinese Taipei University Sports Federation (CTUSF), has been actively expanding international relations since taking office. Today, he traveled to Switzerland to visit the headquarters of the International University Sports Federation (FISU) and exchanged views with FISU President Leonz Eder, initiating dialogue on future cooperation in international university sports events.
Chiu, along with FISU Executive Committee member Tseng Ching-yu from Taiwan, departed last night for a whirlwind 30-hour visit. They are scheduled to return to Taiwan late tonight, and Chiu will attend the graduation ceremony of National Taiwan Sport University tomorrow in his capacity as its president.
Chiu told CNA reporters, "Since the election, I have been looking for an opportunity to visit FISU. Taiwan has always played a very important role in FISU, so I wanted to use this exchange to enable Taiwan to do more on the international stage."
Chiu and Tseng's visit to FISU headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland, was met with high regard, with both FISU President Leonz Eder and Secretary-General Matthias Remund attending the reception.
President Eder highly praised the long-term outstanding contributions of the CTUSF, stating that the promotion and development of FISU's overall operations depend on the top 5% of active member countries globally, and that Taiwan has been a good partner within this top 5% for the past 20 years.
FISU specifically mentioned and thanked the CTUSF for its recent tireless efforts in promoting the 'FISU Healthy Campus' policy.
Chiu emphasized that as a core member country, the CTUSF will actively assume more international obligations in the future, including bidding for and organizing sports events, to comprehensively enhance Taiwan's substantive visibility in the international sports arena.
He also mentioned that the CTUSF has recently formally approved the establishment of an 'International Sports Development Fund.' In the future, through the resources of this fund, it will fully assist FISU in expanding its diverse international operations and sports development. (Editor: Li Xizhang) 1150604
