(Central News Agency reporter Zhang Jianzhong, Hsinchu, 4th) TSMC Chairman and CEO CC Wei stated today that for TSMC to achieve sustainable operations, it must fulfill its responsibilities to shareholders, employees, and society. He noted that dividends and employee bonuses have grown by 30% annually in recent years, calling it 'something to be very proud of.' However, he also mentioned that TSMC uses large amounts of land, nearly 10% of Taiwan's electricity, and water resources, employs top talent, and contributes 25% of tax revenue, indicating that its social contributions and responsibilities still need to be increased. TSMC held its annual shareholder meeting today. A shareholder raised a question about a recent controversy over employee bonuses, hoping the company would support its employees. Wei responded, 'I fully support what you said,' adding that TSMC spares no effort in taking care of its employees. Wei stated that most TSMC employees are also shareholders, so taking care of employees and shareholders is the same thing. He said TSMC's commitment to rewarding shareholders will not change, and shareholder dividends will continue to grow. Regarding shareholder dividends, Wei explained that TSMC's principle is continuous growth. Past dividend growth was 30%, last year it rose by 33%, and it will continue to grow this year, with the increase far exceeding inflation. 'This promise will not change,' he said. Regarding employee bonuses, Wei said they have increased by 30% annually from 2023 to 2025, and will increase by more than 30% again in 2026. 'TSMC works hard together with its employees; there is no ceiling on bonuses,' he stated. However, he also emphasized that while 30% annual growth in shareholder returns and employee bonuses is 'something to be very proud of,' for TSMC to achieve sustainable operations, it must also bear social responsibility in addition to considering employees and shareholders. He noted that TSMC uses large amounts of land, nearly 10% of electricity, and water resources in Taiwan, employs top local talent, and contributes 25% of tax revenue, but its social responsibilities still need to be increased.
