(Central News Agency, reporter Chen Zhizhong, Taipei, June 5) Results for the Comprehensive Assessment Program (CAP) for junior high school students were mailed today. The Psychological and Educational Measurement Research Center at National Taiwan Normal University simultaneously released national statistics. This year, 712 students nationwide achieved 5A and a Level 6 in writing, accounting for 0.4% of all test-takers (last year: 541 students, 0.31%).
A total of 16,293 students achieved the 5A benchmark, considered the basic threshold for elite high schools (last year: 16,547), representing 9.04% of all test-takers (last year: 9.59%). Among all score combinations, 5B was the most common, with 40,598 students, or 22.53% of all test-takers.
In the writing test, 1,262 students achieved the highest score of Level 6 (0.71%), while 2,187 students received a Level 0 (1.23%).
The CAP uses a criterion-referenced system, where thresholds for three levels—Advanced, Basic, and Needs Improvement—are set in advance. Students are compared against these standards, so the number of students at each level changes annually. (Editor: Li Shuhua) 1150605
