(Central News Agency, Washington, 4th, Combined Foreign News) U.S. President Donald Trump has another pioneering move to leave his personal mark, planning to build a walkway behind the famous Washington D.C. landmark, the Lincoln Memorial, extending to the Potomac River waterfront, which may be named the 'Trump Walkway.'
Trump first mentioned the plan to the media in the Oval Office, stating, 'They want to name it the Trump Walkway... I'm not sure I want to do it, but it would be very beautiful.'
The Reflecting Pool near the Lincoln Memorial has just been renovated and is now being filled with water.
The 79-year-old Trump showed a chart to the media for two consecutive days, with the headline 'Our Pool is Bigger Than a Skyscraper,' comparing the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool to three famous skyscrapers.
According to AFP, since returning to the White House last year, Trump has been undertaking major construction projects in Washington D.C., including renovating a series of memorials, demolishing the White House East Wing to build a banquet hall, and planning to erect a giant triumphal arch. Trump has even put his name on several memorials, including the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
None of these initiatives compare to the far-reaching impact of building a 'Trump Walkway' behind the Lincoln Memorial, a site revered by the American people.
Trump stated that according to the original 1911 design of the Lincoln Memorial, the main entrance was on what is now the back of the memorial. Currently, two highways separate the back of the memorial from the Potomac River.
Trump said, 'We have a way to build a beautiful walkway, and in the future, people can walk across these two highways.'
Many of Trump's construction projects have faced opposition, and with just over two and a half years left in his term, the renovation projects have become urgent. (Editor: Ji Jinling) 1150605
