(Central News Agency, Miaoli County, 5th, Reporter Guan Ruiping) A contracted driver surnamed Yang for Chunghwa Post was stabbed more than 10 times and killed by a suspect surnamed Liu at the Zhunan Post Office on the 4th. The victim's brother said on the 5th that his brother was so mutilated he was almost unrecognizable, lamenting that "society is really sick."

The 61-year-old victim, surnamed Yang, had worked as a contracted postal transport driver for Chunghwa Post for many years. He was unmarried, his parents had passed away, and he lived alone in Miaoli City.

Retired former Miaoli Post Office specialist Tseng Chang-hao told media that he had worked with Yang for about 5 to 6 years. He described Yang as somewhat of a loner but always cooperative when work required it. He was shocked to learn of the incident from a former colleague and felt that Yang was a scapegoat, as Liu's complaints were about noise during the night shift, while Yang was attacked in the afternoon.

Tseng pointed out that before retiring, he frequently handled complaint calls from Liu. The post office had reported the issue to superiors and made improvements to reduce noise, such as laying rubber mats in the unloading area to reduce the noise of metal carts colliding and instructing staff to avoid sliding carts and to place them down slowly.

Tseng said that after the mats were laid, Liu was specifically invited to the site during the early morning hours to observe the operation and asked if it was acceptable. Liu had no objections at the time but called to complain again a few days later. In April 2024, Liu even brandished a utility knife at the post office, threatening postal workers, and was sentenced to 10 days of detention for the crime of threatening public safety, which could be commuted to a fine.

Tseng said that it is impossible to make the unloading area completely silent, but it is not as exaggerated as Liu's father claimed, who said it was "like an earthquake." He called this an attempt to shirk responsibility.

Yang's brother, Yang Chin-fu, a former chief of Wenshan Village in Miaoli City and currently a secretary for Kuomintang legislator Chiu Chun-chun in the Miaoli area, looked grim during an interview on the 5th. He said that when he went to identify the body, he saw that his brother's head and body had been stabbed more than ten times, leaving him bloody and almost unrecognizable.

Yang Chin-fu said that although his brother lived alone, he was friendly and never argued with anyone. He expressed helplessness that despite Liu's previous threatening behavior, the murder could not be prevented, saying, "Society is sick. There is still a lot of room for improvement."

The suspect's family runs an optical shop. Nearby shopkeepers said the owner's wife is very nice, but the owner interacts less with people, and their son, the suspect, was rarely seen. Regarding whether the post office noise was bothersome, many residents said that some noise during operations is unavoidable, but installing soundproof windows can significantly reduce the volume.
