(Central News Agency reporter Lin Chiao-lien, Kaohsiung, June 6) The Chinese National Association of Industry and Commerce held the 115th Southern Business Luncheon today, during which the industry submitted 24 proposals and 61 specific suggestions covering the Asian Asset Management Center, sustainable transition, and labor policies. The Association stated that most topics received positive responses from the executive branch.
The Southern Business Luncheon was held today at the Kaohsiung Marriott Hotel, co-chaired by Premier Cho Jung-tai and Association Chairman Wu Tung-liang.
Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai stated in his address that Taiwan's investment environment ranks among the best in the world. He noted that with TSMC and related supply chains entering southern Taiwan, Kaohsiung is gradually becoming a globally important semiconductor and advanced industry cluster.
The Association submitted a total of 24 proposals and 61 specific suggestions, covering five major aspects: the Asian Asset Management Center, sustainable transition, the business environment, industry revitalization, and labor policies. Regarding the Asian Asset Management Center, the industry suggested that the government flexibly adjust the overseas income tax thresholds for Controlled Foreign Companies (CFC) within special zones to reduce barriers to capital management, and improve the institutional environment for Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs).
On promoting sustainable transition, the business community mentioned that Taiwan's carbon credit exchange system design and market functions should be strengthened to establish a high-quality carbon credit/carbon market capable of international integration, helping industries effectively respond to the impacts of net-zero transition and the carbon fee system.
The Association stated that the executive branch responded to each case during the meeting, with most topics receiving positive responses or being included in subsequent research and discussion. Facing new trends such as global supply chain restructuring, digital transformation, and net-zero emissions, the Association expressed hope that the government will continue to cooperate with businesses to accelerate various reform measures and strengthen industrial competitiveness.
