(Central News Agency, Washington, D.C., June 9, Comprehensive Foreign Reports) Using Japan-Philippines negotiations as a pretext, Chinese government vessels have intruded into the eastern waters of Taiwan. In response to the increasingly frequent activities of the Chinese Coast Guard in Taiwan's waters, a US State Department spokesperson stated in a declaration that the US looks forward to resolving cross-strait differences peacefully and "without coercion."
The Coast Guard Administration (CGA) stated today that five Chinese government vessels had moved away from Taiwan's waters by the morning, but during their presence, they had falsely claimed jurisdiction and broadcast inquiries to three passing merchant cargo ships, which were met with stern warnings from CGA vessels.
According to a Reuters report, the US State Department spokesperson said, "We urge Beijing to cease its military, diplomatic, and economic pressure on Taiwan and instead engage in meaningful dialogue with Taiwan."
Using the Japan-Philippines negotiations as a cover, Chinese government vessels, including coast guard and maritime affairs ships, intruded into Taiwan's eastern waters. The CGA stated that it had pre-deployed vessels to conduct concurrent monitoring throughout the incident.
During this period, the Chinese government vessels broadcast inquiries to three passing merchant ships regarding port entry and exit information. CGA vessels immediately responded sternly, stating, "China is violating international law; there is no need to heed their harassment." (Editor: Liu Shuqin) 1150609
