(Central News Agency, New York, 8th - Combined Foreign Reports) U.S. President Donald Trump will attend Game 3 of the NBA Finals today as his hometown team, the New York Knicks, host the San Antonio Spurs at Madison Square Garden. The area around the Knicks' home arena has been placed under massive traffic controls, with police封锁 multiple blocks and stepping up security.
According to AFP, police are barring fans without tickets from entering several blocks around Madison Square Garden and are not permitting watch parties outside the venue. This strict control is a stark contrast to the festive atmosphere and large crowds that flooded the streets during the first two games of the playoffs.
Authorities are urging ticketed spectators to arrive at least two hours before tip-off to undergo airport-like security screening. Bags are prohibited inside the arena.
An AFP reporting team today witnessed parts of Madison Square Garden surrounded by 3-meter-high fencing, with U.S. Secret Service agents on guard to protect the president.
Some Secret Service agents were seen carrying firearms and were maintaining order alongside hundreds of New York City police officers. Crowds were visible on nearby streets and in other viewing areas throughout the city.
The Knicks currently lead the best-of-seven championship series 2-0 and will host Games 3 and 4 at home.
The team, which has not won an NBA championship since 1973, has sparked a wave of basketball fervor in New York, the largest city in the United States.
Ticket prices for today's game are prohibitively expensive for most New Yorkers. Mayor Zohran Mamdani, who will also attend the game, said he paid nearly $1,000 for his ticket and does not expect to be seated in the same row as President Trump.
The Secret Service plans to deploy anti-drone technology to protect the U.S. leader, who has survived three assassination attempts in the past two years.
Secret Service agent Matt McCool told the media, "The Secret Service's focus is clear: to ensure that all spectators can enjoy the game with peace of mind, and we will do everything in our power to protect the safety of the President of the United States." (Editor: Chia-min Tsai) 1150609
