MediaTek Hits Limit-Up, Optical Stocks Surge as Taiwan Stocks Rebound Sharply by 1201 Points to Close at 44704

(CNA, Reporter Ho Hsiu-ling, Taipei, 9th) The Taiwan stock market, buoyed by a rebound in U.S. technology stocks today, saw large-cap stocks, optical, and passive component sectors launch a strong counter-offensive. The market closed with a significant gain of 1201.66 points at 44704.44, a 2.76% increase, with a trading value of NT$1.15193 trillion. Bellwether stocks MediaTek, Largan Precision, and Yageo all surged to their limit-up prices today.

In terms of large-cap stocks, TSMC rose by NT$10 to close at NT$2305; MediaTek closed at its limit-up price of NT$4475; Delta Electronics increased by NT$160 to close at NT$2415, a 7.1% gain; Hon Hai Precision Industry rose by NT$8 to close at NT$277.5.

The electronics sector index rose by 2.59% today, while the financial sector index increased by 6.3%. The OTC index, representing small and medium-sized enterprises, gained 2.94% but remains in a consolidation pattern below its monthly line of 426 points.

Optical lens manufacturers performed impressively today, with Largan Precision, Genius Electronic Optical, Advanced-optic, Kinko Optical, and Leo Photonics all hitting their limit-up prices. Driven by themes of price hikes, the passive components sector, led by Yageo, saw Walsin Technology, Holy Stone, Chilisin, King-Microelectronics, and Mithcon also close at their limit-up prices.

CPO (Co-packaged optics) concept stocks also rebounded in unison, with Unimicron and Visual Photonics Epitaxy both surging to their limit-up prices. In the Battery Backup Unit (BBU) concept stocks, AES-KY, Simplo Technology, and Sin-Sheng-Li Technology rose by 8.02%, 7.38%, and 4.88% respectively.

Senior securities analyst Chien Po-yi pointed out that investors can take advantage of the rebound to moderately adjust their holdings and pay attention to stocks with better fundamentals, especially those with outstanding May revenue performance.
