(Central News Agency, Washington, 8th - Combined Foreign News) Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX, said that building orbital AI data centers does not pose a major engineering challenge, noting that the related technology can be extended from the existing Starlink satellite system.
According to a Reuters report, Musk said in a video: "Part of the message we want to convey is that this doesn't require some kind of magic technology that doesn't exist. We're already using a lot of this technology on the Starlink V3 satellites. We think it's not a particularly difficult challenge compared to what we're doing right now."
SpaceX is planning to raise a record $75 billion through an initial public offering (IPO), with a valuation of up to $1.75 trillion. The company's orbital AI data center plan is also attracting significant attention, seen as a key part of its long-term growth strategy.
Musk and SpaceX engineer Ian Dahl outlined plans to build AI satellites as computing nodes operating in orbit, powered by solar energy and cooled by radiating heat into space.
SpaceX said deploying computing infrastructure in orbit could help alleviate the increasingly severe power constraints faced by ground-based AI data centers.
According to the presentation, the proposed AI satellite could provide approximately 120 kilowatts of continuous computing power, with a peak of 150 kilowatts.
SpaceX noted that these satellites will rely heavily on technology already deployed in its next-generation Starlink V3 satellites, including solar arrays and thermal management systems.
Musk said that AI satellites do not require the extremely complex antennas of Starlink satellites, making the AI satellite design less difficult by comparison.
