(Central News Agency, reporter Huang Liyun, Taipei, June 10) A female high school student in Taipei City was attacked by a middle-aged male passenger while riding the bus to school this morning. The man stepped on her foot, glared at her, and bumped her shoulder. Before getting off the bus, he also stabbed her shoulder with an umbrella, causing an injury. Police received the report, activated the child and youth protection reporting mechanism, identified the suspect, and are now pursuing him.
The Wenshan Police Station of the Shilin Precinct, Taipei City Police Department, received the report today. The female student, accompanied by her mother, stated that she was suddenly and unprovokedly attacked by a stranger on the school bus, resulting in a bleeding injury to her right shoulder. An assault complaint was immediately filed.
Preliminary police investigation indicates that the victim and the suspect did not know each other and had no prior interaction, conversation, or dispute. However, during the bus ride, the suspect allegedly became dissatisfied that the victim was blocking his path. He then stepped on her right foot, glared at her fiercely, and deliberately bumped her left shoulder with his left shoulder.
As the suspect was about to get off at the Yangming High School bus stop, he suddenly used his folded umbrella to forcefully stab the victim's right shoulder, causing an abrasion.
The frightened student, accompanied by her mother, first went to the hospital for a medical examination and injury report, then immediately went to the police station to file a complaint and press charges. In addition to activating the child and youth protection reporting mechanism, police also reviewed the bus's interior footage and surrounding surveillance camera footage. They have now identified the suspect and will apprehend him as soon as possible to clarify the motive for the crime.
The Shilin Precinct urges that police maintain a zero-tolerance policy towards all types of violent crime and will never allow lawbreakers to challenge public authority or endanger social order. Any illegal activity will be dealt with severely. The public is reminded to remain vigilant when using public transportation. In the event of a sudden attack or dispute, remain calm, prioritize personal safety, note the suspect's characteristics and escape direction, and then report to the police.
