(Central News Agency reporter Huang Liyun, Taipei 10th) A fire broke out today in the motorcycle parking lot of the Taipei Wenshan Sports Center. Police and firefighters responded to the report and quickly extinguished the blaze. No casualties were reported, but three motorcycles were damaged. Preliminary investigation indicates that a micro electric two-wheeled vehicle (e-scooter) likely caught fire spontaneously due to a battery malfunction.
The Xinglong Police Station of the Wenshan Second Precinct, Taipei City Police Department, received a report at 7:59 AM about a fire in the motorcycle parking lot of the Wenshan Sports Center within its jurisdiction and immediately dispatched officers to the scene.
Bystanders used fire extinguishers for initial firefighting, and the fire was quickly extinguished by arriving firefighters. Fortunately, there were no casualties, but the fire damaged three vehicles.
According to the police's preliminary investigation, the vehicle that caught fire was a micro electric two-wheeled vehicle. The owner parked the vehicle at the location around 5:00 AM and left. Unexpectedly, the vehicle suddenly emitted white smoke and caught fire around 7:51 AM.
Police and firefighters preliminarily suspect that a vehicle battery malfunction caused the spontaneous combustion. However, the exact cause of the fire and the extent of property damage are pending further investigation and appraisal.
The Wenshan Second Precinct reminds the public that when using micro electric two-wheeled vehicles and other electric mobility devices, they should regularly inspect the battery, charging equipment, and wiring conditions. They should use original or certified charging equipment, avoid overcharging or impact damage to the battery, to reduce the risk of fire accidents and ensure personal and public safety.
