(Central News Agency, reporter Su Muchun, Taichung, 10th) A man surnamed Lin from Taichung was employed by a man surnamed Kuo at his karaoke store in May last year. He got into an argument with Kuo's girlfriend and kicked her, causing rib fractures and other injuries. She died after nearly three weeks of treatment. The Taichung District Court's National Court today sentenced him to 11 years in prison for the crime of causing death by injury in the first instance. The verdict can be appealed.

According to the prosecutor's indictment, the 32-year-old man surnamed Lin knew a man surnamed Kuo who operated a karaoke store. He was employed at Kuo's store starting May 23, 2025 (Republic of China year 114), and met Kuo's girlfriend, surnamed Li, who worked there.

However, on May 26 of the same year, Lin's third day of work, he told Kuo in the morning that he wanted to return to his rented apartment in Taichung's North District to shower. Kuo agreed, and Lin prepared to leave. However, Lin got into an argument with Li inside the premises. Lin kicked her in the head, chest, and abdomen, causing rib fractures and organ rupture.

Afterwards, Kuo went upstairs to look for Li and found her lying on the floor unconscious. Li was sent to the hospital and treated for nearly three weeks but died from complications including respiratory and renal failure. The case was investigated by the Taiwan Taichung District Prosecutors Office, and Lin was indicted on suspicion of causing death by injury.

After trial in the National Court of the Taichung District Court, the first-instance verdict was announced today. Lin was sentenced to 11 years in prison for the crime of causing death by injury. The verdict can be appealed. (Editor: Zhang Yajing) 1150610
