(CNA reporter Yang Szu-jui, Tainan, 10th) The Tainan City Police Department held a celebration for the 115th Police Day today, where Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che honored relevant personnel. He praised Tainan City's performance, noting that from January to May this year, the overall crime clearance rate ranked first among the six special municipalities, and the amount of intercepted fraud exceeded NT$500 million.
In the afternoon, Huang attended the Police Day celebration at the Tainan City Police Department, presenting awards to this year's model police officers, police medal representatives, and outstanding friends of the police. On behalf of Tainan's citizens, he expressed respect and appreciation to all police officers, auxiliary civil forces, police friends, and their families.
In his speech, Huang stated that the Tainan police's achievements in maintaining public order are evident to all. Especially in anti-fraud efforts, although the intercepted amount was not the highest, the number of cases cracked was the most among the six special municipalities, and the clearance rate was one of the best. He also noted that their performance in preventing violent crime, firearms, and drugs is widely recognized, and citizens strongly feel the improvement in public safety.
Huang emphasized that Tainan has a vast territory and a population of 1.85 million, yet the police force consists of only a little over 4,000 officers. Therefore, he thanked agencies such as the District Prosecutors Office, High Prosecutors Office, Administrative Enforcement Agency, and District Court for jointly maintaining public order and combating crime. He also expressed gratitude to important civilian forces like civil defense, volunteer traffic police, and volunteers who assist in maintaining security.
The Tainan City Police Department explained that from January to May this year, Tainan's overall crime clearance rate was the highest among the six special municipalities. The amount of intercepted fraud reached over NT$557.68 million, and 690 cases of drug-impaired driving were handled, demonstrating excellent prevention results.
The department pointed out that to commend and affirm the police's outstanding achievements in maintaining public and traffic safety, Mayor Huang fully supported raising the "heavy duty bonus" and "criminal investigation bonus" for Tainan police, retroactive to March 1 of this year. He also requested the police to continue targeting fraud, drug enforcement, crackdowns on drug-impaired and drunk driving, and enhancing social resilience. The city government will do its utmost to be a strong supporter of the police. (Editor: Chang Ya-ching) 1150610
