(Central News Agency, reporter Zhang Rongxiang, Tainan, 10th) A man surnamed Jiang was indicted by the Tainan District Prosecutors Office for allegedly insulting and slapping a part-time worker surnamed Tsai while watching a professional baseball game at the Tainan Asia Pacific Baseball Stadium on March 29. Jiang sought mediation but was rejected, and the Tainan District Court sentenced him to three months in prison. The case can be appealed.
The Tainan District Court stated on the 10th that at 7:30 PM on March 29, in a public area on the 3rd floor near the third-base side elevator of the main baseball stadium at the Asia Pacific Baseball Stadium, Jiang got into a dispute with the part-time worker Tsai. Dissatisfied, he verbally abused Tsai and slapped him once, causing injuries including a contusion on the left face with dizziness and abrasions on the left oral mucosa.
The court determined that Jiang committed the crimes of injury and aggravated public insult under the Criminal Code, and sentenced him based on the more serious crime of injury. The court stated that Jiang clearly lacked emotional self-management, had a belligerent attitude and violent behavior, and had a prior criminal record for violent crimes. Although Jiang confessed to the crime, his request for mediation was rejected.
Therefore, the Tainan District Court sentenced Jiang to three months in prison, convertible to a fine at a rate of NT$1,000 per day. The case can be appealed.
The incident, which occurred during the first CPBL regular-season game held at the newly opened main baseball stadium of the Asia Pacific International Baseball Training Center, sparked widespread discussion. The Chinese Professional Baseball League has placed Jiang on the stadium's blacklist, banning him from future entry. The real estate company where Jiang worked, Happy Home Real Estate, also terminated his employment. (Editor: Zhang Yajing) 1150610
