(Central News Agency, reporter Zhang Jianzhong, Hsinchu, 10th) Handset chip maker MediaTek reported self-consolidated May revenue of NT$47.434 billion, the second highest for the same period in history, second only to the NT$52.076 billion recorded in May 2022. The company's second-quarter operational targets are expected to be achieved smoothly.

MediaTek's May revenue was NT$47.434 billion, up 1.49% month-over-month and 4.99% year-over-year. Cumulative revenue for the first five months was NT$243.321 billion, down 1.59% year-over-year.

MediaTek expects that due to cautious customer demand, its handset chip revenue may decline in the second quarter, further impacting overall second-quarter revenue, which is forecast to be in the range of NT$140.2 billion to NT$149.2 billion, flat to down 6% from the first quarter.

MediaTek's combined April and May revenue was NT$94.171 billion, suggesting that the company's second-quarter operational targets should be achievable.

MediaTek anticipates that flagship smartphones equipped with 2-nanometer chips will debut at the end of the third quarter, and the handset chip business is expected to recover in the second half of the year. The company's overall US dollar revenue for the year is expected to grow by 4% to 9%, with the AI accelerator application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) business contributing approximately US$2 billion in revenue.
