(CNA reporter Chang Jung-hsiang, Tainan, 10th) Two men, surnamed Wu and Kuo, suspected of manufacturing the narcotic drug amphetamine in rented factories in Kaohsiung and Tainan, were busted last October. The Tainan District Court yesterday sentenced them to 7 and 6 years in prison, respectively, for the joint offense of manufacturing a Category 2 narcotic. The entire case can be appealed.

The Tainan District Court stated today that Mr. Wu first rented land and its affiliated buildings in Hunei District, Kaohsiung City (Hunei factory), and land and its affiliated buildings in Anding District, Tainan City (Anding factory) to serve as drug manufacturing plants. He then obtained cold medicine pills and equipment from unknown sources as raw materials.

The process involved Wu being responsible for the main drug manufacturing work, while Kuo handled miscellaneous tasks such as breaking open cold medicine pills to extract the powder and moving equipment. The two men began manufacturing amphetamines at the factories with this division of labor from early October 2023. They were caught in late October last year. Wu and Kuo admitted to the crime, and fortunately, the drugs did not enter the market. (Editor: Huang Ming-hsi) 1150610
