(Central News Agency, Taipei, June 11) Weather expert Wu Derong said today that for the coming week, a stationary front will linger north and south, making local areas prone to strong convection development. People should be alert to severe weather such as lightning strikes, strong winds, and instant heavy rain. However, as the southwest monsoon gradually weakens, rainfall is expected to decrease day by day.

Wu Derong, an adjunct associate professor at the Department of Atmospheric Sciences at National Central University, stated in the "Weather Classroom" column of the Weather Application Promotion Foundation that the latest European model simulation shows that the stationary front will move south today. Rainfall will be relatively light in the morning, but strong convection will develop locally in the afternoon, so attention should be paid to severe weather (lightning, strong winds, instant heavy rain).

Wu said that the latest model simulation shows that the stationary front will move north again tomorrow, and strong convection will threaten all of Taiwan again. People need to be aware of the threat of severe weather and disastrous rainfall. On the 13th and 14th, the stationary front will linger over the northern sea, temperatures will rise, and under the influence of the unstable southwest monsoon, the windward southwestern region will still face the threat of severe weather. In other areas, attention should be paid to lightning, strong winds, and instant heavy rain in the afternoon.

Furthermore, Wu pointed out that the latest European model simulation shows that the stationary front will move south again on the 15th and 16th, and strong convection may still occur. From the 17th to the 20th, the stationary front will move north again. When there is no rain, it will be hot during the day. Taiwan will be within the range of the southwest monsoon, and strong convection may still occur. However, as the southwest monsoon gradually weakens, rainfall is expected to decrease day by day.
