(Central News Agency, reporter Zhang Xiongfeng, Taipei, June 11) The Ministry of Environment (MOENV) officially unveiled the unified identification logo for the 'CoolMap' platform today. Effective immediately, the logo is available for free download and display by any organization, serving as a common marker for the public to identify cool spaces. People are welcome to enter and rest or cool down even without making a purchase.
Taiwan experienced extreme heat in May this year. According to the Central Weather Administration, on May 27, the Taipei station recorded 38.3°C, Keelung station 37.6°C, and New Taipei station 37.8°C, all setting new May high-temperature records.
In a press release today, the MOENV stated that the 'CoolMap' platform was launched as a trial on July 31 last year. It has been used by over 20,000 people and has accumulated more than 9,000 indoor and outdoor cool spots. With the official launch of the unified logo today, the public can easily identify locations where they are welcome to rest and cool down without any obligation to purchase.
Minister of Environment Peng Chi-ming noted that convenience stores and supermarkets are deeply integrated into communities and have dense networks, making them the most familiar living spaces for the public. He specifically thanked FamilyMart for adding 3,100 stores across all 22 counties and cities, making it the first company to have cool spots in all 22 counties and cities in Taiwan. This initiative extends heat adaptation from a digital map to physical cooling spaces and demonstrates corporate social responsibility.
The MOENV invites all businesses, agencies, and public and private organizations across Taiwan to join the 'Cool Spot' initiative. Participating locations are encouraged to display signs saying 'Heat Warning: Welcome to Rest Inside' and use in-store boards to remind the public to prevent heat-related illnesses, gradually building a comprehensive heat-protection network across Taiwan.
