Blue and White Camps Criticize Contradiction in Abolition Stance and Nominations; DPP Praises Chen Yong-xing as Cross-Party Choice

KMT Caucus Chief Deputy Secretary-General Hsu Yu-chen stated that after the DPP took power, the abolition of the Control Yuan went from a slogan to empty words, highlighting a political contradiction. TPP Caucus Convener Chen Ching-lung said the DPP previously advocated abolishing the Control Yuan but has been negligent in promoting it since taking office. The DPP Caucus affirmed that Control Yuan President nominee Chen Yong-xing is an excellent cross-party choice.

Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim announced today that President Lai Ching-te will nominate former Taiwan Association for Human Rights President Chen Yong-xing as Control Yuan President, current Control Yuan member Wang Rong-zhang as Vice President, and Pingtung Urban-Rural Development and Culture Education Foundation Chairperson Liao Wan-ru among 27 others as Control Yuan members, aiming to build a Control Yuan for the people.

DPP Caucus Secretary-General Fan Yun stated in an interview that the Chen Yong-xing she knows is a cross-party figure who serves the people, having supervised and criticized both during the democratic movement period and when the DPP was in power. She believes Chen Yong-xing is an excellent cross-party choice.

Regarding the nomination of former KMT legislator Liao Wan-ru as a Control Yuan member, DPP Caucus Chief Executive Chuang Jui-hsiung said this is a gesture of goodwill, calling Liao a good person and an excellent political figure. He expressed hope that the upcoming Control Yuan personnel consent case would consider the nominees' social reputation and personal abilities, suggesting that if they are excellent candidates, everyone should support them.

KMT Legislative Caucus Chief Deputy Secretary-General Hsu Yu-chen stated that the DPP has advocated abolishing the Control Yuan for decades, criticizing it for lacking a popular mandate, being ineffective, and even becoming a political patronage institution. President Lai's nomination of new Control Yuan members once again highlights the DPP's long-standing greatest political contradiction.

Hsu Yu-chen stated that if the Control Yuan truly has no value, the DPP should propose a constitutional amendment to abolish it. Before such an amendment, nominations should be frozen, and they should not simultaneously call for abolition while filling positions with patronage appointments.

TPP Legislative Caucus Convener Chen Ching-lung stated that the DPP has repeatedly advocated abolishing the Control Yuan, but after gaining power, they have shown no reflection or remorse and have been negligent in promoting its abolition.
