(Central News Agency, reporter Chen Zhizhong, Taipei, 12th) National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (NTUST) is collaborating with the Taipei City and New Taipei City governments to launch three 'Advanced Placement (AP) Courses' for high school students in the first semester of the 2026 academic year. For the first time, the program will also include students from technical high schools (vocational high schools), allowing them to earn college credits upon successful completion.
NTUST's Office of Academic Affairs issued a press release today stating that previous university preparatory courses were mostly aimed at students from general high schools. NTUST has specifically included vocational high school students in this program. The three courses to be offered are 'General Chemistry,' 'General Physics,' and 'Introduction to Finance,' designed to give students an earlier experience of the depth of university-level coursework.
This AP program is a collaboration with the Taipei City and New Taipei City governments, with the respective education bureaus recommending student candidates. NTUST has also established cooperative recommendation channels with 8 public high schools in Taipei (Taipei First Girls' High School, Chien Kuo High School, The Affiliated Senior High School of National Taiwan Normal University, Zhongshan Girls High School, Jingmei Girls High School, Chenggong High School, Songshan High School, Datong High School) and 5 private schools (Yanping High School, Nanshan High School, Zaixing High School, Fuxing High School, Jingxin High School) to expand opportunities for outstanding students.
Each of the three AP courses is worth 3 credits and is expected to enroll 50 students per course. Classes will be held in person at the NTUST campus during weekday evenings. Each student may enroll in only one course and can be recommended by a partner school or by the Taipei City or New Taipei City Department of Education.
NTUST Academic Affairs Director Chen Su-fen stated that both NTUST and the neighboring National Taiwan University (NTU) offer AP courses. She expressed hope that this collaboration will expand the connection between high schools and universities, cultivating a new generation of talent in Taiwan with cross-disciplinary perspectives and advanced learning abilities.
