Taipei, January 12 (Central News Agency reporter Jiang Mingyan) — U.S. President Donald Trump announced the cancellation of planned airstrikes on Iran, sparking optimism that a U.S.-Iran agreement is imminent. This boosted U.S. equities and triggered a sharp rally in Taiwan's stock market, which surged 1,649.42 points in early trading today, reaching a high of 44,798 points and reclaiming key technical levels including the 5-day, 10-day, and monthly moving averages.
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) rose NT$50 to NT$2,300 in morning trading. UniMicron surged over 7%, while United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC) hit the daily trading limit at NT$137.5. Memory sector stocks also rallied strongly: Winbond Electronics approached its daily limit, rising to NT$172, and Nanya Technology also posted significant gains.
