Key News on US-Iran War
(CAIRO, Reuters) - US President Donald Trump today announced the cancellation of a plan for further strikes on Tehran, prompting Egypt to call on the United States and Iran to seize the "existing opportunity" to reach an agreement to end the war.
According to AFP, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry in Cairo issued a statement late tonight expressing hope that (the US and Iran) "can seize the existing opportunity to reach an agreement on outstanding issues and create an atmosphere to end the war and open a new phase of regional stability."
Trump earlier today announced the cancellation of the attack on Iran that he had publicly previewed just hours earlier and was scheduled for tonight, citing the approval of the "final points" of a US-Iran agreement. Trump also hinted that a deal with Iran could be signed soon.
Writing on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump stated: "In light of the fact that discussions with Iran have been submitted to and approved by Iran's highest leadership, as President of the United States, I have canceled the airstrikes and bombings planned for tonight against Iran."
