(Central News Agency, Taipei, June 12) Taiwan's stock market opened high and moved higher, surging to 44,798 points in early trading, a gain of over 1,649 points, marking the second-largest intraday gain in history. Heavyweight stocks such as TSMC, Yageo, and MediaTek rallied, while memory stocks and high-priced technology stocks were strong.
Amid expectations that the US and Iran are about to reach an agreement, US stocks closed sharply higher, with the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index surging 7.91%. AI tech stocks recovered, and Japanese and South Korean stocks also rose.
Taiwan's stock market opened at 43,587.63 points today, surging to 44,798.88 points in early trading, a gain of over 1,649 points, marking the second-largest intraday gain in history.
As of around 11:40 a.m., the TAIEX (Taiwan Stock Exchange Weighted Index) was up 1,076.42 points at 44,225.88 points, a gain of 2.49%. The electronics sub-index rose 2.71%, the financial sub-index rose 0.9%, and the OTC (GreTai Securities Market) index rose 3.55%.
Looking at the performance of heavyweight stocks, TSMC rose NT$45 to NT$2,295, a gain of 2%. MediaTek rose over 4%, Delta Electronics and Hon Hai rose over 2%, and Yageo surged about 5%.
Memory stocks were strong today, with Nanya Technology hitting the daily price limit and Winbond rising over 9%. Low-Earth orbit satellite stocks were active, with Tong Hsing hitting the daily price limit, and Gemtek and MTI also showing gains, while Compeq was flat.
Looking at high-priced stocks, the market leader ASPEED Technology rose over 4%, and the second-ranked WinWay Technology hit the daily price limit. Most high-priced stocks rallied, with King Slide, Innovation Services, United Integrated Services, and TrueLight surging.
