(Central News Agency reporter Chen Yuting, Taipei 12th) After the Presidential Office announced the list of nominees for the Control Yuan, Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an said today, "This is no longer a question of candidates, but a question of whether the Control Yuan should exist or be abolished," because the public has not seen the active functions of the Control Yuan in recent years. "I believe the Control Yuan should be abolished."
On the 11th, the Presidential Office announced the list of nominees for the 7th-term President, Vice President, and members of the Control Yuan. The presidential message has been sent to the Legislative Yuan, requesting it to exercise its power of consent.
In a Facebook post today, Chiang Wan-an stated, "This is no longer a question of candidates, but a question of whether the Control Yuan should exist or be abolished." He argued that the public has not seen the active functions of the Control Yuan in recent years. On issues of public concern, it has either dodged or handled them lightly, leading people to question whether the Control Yuan has become a pawn in partisan struggles and a tool for whitewashing politicians.
Chiang Wan-an said, "Your salaries and benefits come from the people's hard-earned money! I believe the Control Yuan should be abolished." He suggested that the Kuomintang and Taiwan People's Party caucuses in the Legislative Yuan consider rejecting all 29 nominees, first freezing the Control Yuan's operations in this way, and then seeking consensus between the ruling and opposition parties to amend the constitution and abolish the Control Yuan.
He said that abolishing the Control Yuan has been a long-standing position of the Democratic Progressive Party. Former Control Yuan President Chen Chu has also said she hoped to be the last Control Yuan President. Therefore, he argued, the DPP should support a constitutional amendment to abolish the Control Yuan. (Editor: Huang Mingxi) 1150612
