(Central News Agency, Reporter Huang Chiao-wen, Taipei, 12th) A Tigerair Taiwan flight from Taoyuan to New Chitose, Japan, triggered an "electronic bay" smoke warning during the landing phase this morning. Tigerair Taiwan stated that the aircraft did not make an emergency landing; it landed smoothly following air traffic control instructions, and all passengers deplaned safely. The airline proactively notified the Civil Aeronautics Administration of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications.
The "electronic bay" is located beneath the cockpit. Tigerair Taiwan said it has activated emergency procedures simultaneously, will prioritize providing meal subsidies for passengers on the subsequently affected IT235 flight, and has arranged backup aircraft to transport IT235 passengers. The airline apologized for the inconvenience caused to passengers.
According to Japanese media reports, the New Chitose Airport Office in Hokkaido, Japan, stated that a Tigerair Taiwan aircraft landed on Runway B at New Chitose Airport around 11:00 AM (10:00 AM Taipei time) and reported "smoke in the cockpit."
Regarding foreign media reports that the flight made an emergency landing due to cockpit smoke, Tigerair Taiwan clarified in a statement that the aircraft did not make an emergency landing. The smoke warning occurred in the electronic bay (aircraft equipment room) during the landing phase. The cockpit crew proactively reported to air traffic control according to procedures, then completed the landing smoothly per ATC instructions. After landing, the aircraft vacated the main runway following the local airport tower's instructions. All passengers were safe and deplaned via normal procedures.
Tigerair Taiwan noted that it proactively reported the incident to the Civil Aeronautics Administration of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications at the first opportunity. (Editor: Huang Ming-hsi) 1150612
