(CNA reporter Hsiao Po-yang, Nantou County, June 14) Nantou County Mayor Hsu Shu-hua presented awards today to graduates receiving the 'County Mayor's Award.' Hsu expressed appreciation for the dedicated efforts of teachers and principals across all levels of schools in the county, who attentively support students' well-being and ensure their right to education. She emphasized that creating a high-quality educational environment remains a continuous goal of the county government.
The Nantou County Government hosted a joint award ceremony today at National Chung Hsing Senior High School, where a total of 408 students—from elementary to university level—received the 'County Mayor's Award.' Mayor Hsu attended the event to personally present the awards. Commemorative gifts included an EasyCard with the calligraphy phrase 'Xue Xing Ju You' (Excellence in Learning and Conduct) by artist Li Ku-mo, as well as headphones. This year’s ceremony featured a special segment inviting parents onstage for photos, with many students and families taking the opportunity to take selfies with Mayor Hsu.
Mayor Hsu announced that the county has already achieved 'a large screen in every classroom' and 'a digital device for every teacher,' and this year successfully realized 'a tablet for every student' across the entire county. She emphasized that digital learning tools help bridge the urban-rural education gap. Additionally, the county has expanded administrative staffing in elementary and junior high schools, alleviating the burden on teachers who previously had to take on administrative duties, allowing them to focus on teaching.
Hsu stated that the county continues to allocate NT$13 million annually for overseas study scholarships, supporting nearly 600 Nantou students in international exchange programs. This year, the county also launched the 'Local Advancement, Top Future' incentive program to encourage outstanding students to pursue higher education locally. She affirmed that the county government will remain a steadfast supporter of students, hoping that future leaders will move forward with blessings and full energy.
The Nantou County Government Education Division reported remarkable achievements over the past year, including students winning first place in the World Wind Energy Competition, Huang Yun-tzu and Chang Yi-chin receiving the Presidential Award for Education, ranking second in the National Science Fair, two schools winning the Ministry of Education’s Gold Award for Teaching Excellence, three schools receiving the Reading磐石 Award, four top honors in the National Student Dance Competition, and 18 gold medals at the National High School Games. These accomplishments, attributed to the joint efforts of teachers and students, reflect rich and well-deserved outcomes. (Edited by Lin Shu-hui) 1150614
