Central News Agency Report
(CNA reporter Chiang I-Ching, Chiayi City, June 14) A Wu surnamed man in Chiayi City entered a convenience store around 2 a.m. on June 13, brandishing scissors and robbing cash. After police received the report, they reviewed surveillance footage and arrested the suspect within eight hours, recovering part of the stolen money. Prosecutors, citing concerns of flight risk, filed for pre-trial detention, which was approved by the court.
Chiayi District Prosecutors Office stated today that they received notification yesterday from the First Police Precinct of Chiayi City about a robbery at a convenience store in the city's West District. A man entered the store armed with scissors, threatened the clerk to open the cash register and hand over valuables, then fled. The store estimated losses at approximately NT$21,000.
After reviewing surveillance footage, 60-year-old Mr. Wu became the prime suspect. The investigation was directed by Prosecutor Hsiao Shih-yung.
The special task force apprehended Mr. Wu at around 10:30 a.m. on June 13 on Ximen Street in Chiayi City, seizing clothing and NT$7,000 in stolen cash as evidence.
Prosecutors believe Mr. Wu is strongly suspected of aggravated robbery under the Criminal Code. Given substantial evidence, concerns over flight and evidence tampering, and a tendency toward repeat offenses, the prosecution applied for detention at Chiayi District Court, which was granted.
