Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida held talks today in London with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer. The two leaders are expected to express concern over China's economic coercion, including export controls on critical minerals.

According to Kyodo News, Japan and the UK are expected to issue a joint statement outlining cooperation in economic security, with a focus on energy. Additionally, both sides have reached a consensus to accelerate the 'Global Combat Air Programme' (GCAP), a next-generation fighter jet development project involving Italy, as part of defense collaboration.

During the talks, the two leaders agreed to establish a framework for offshore wind power cooperation, with Japan planning to invest up to £9 billion (approximately NT$381.8 billion). They also committed to strengthening energy development, including next-generation nuclear power and nuclear fusion.

Meanwhile, Rapidus, a Japanese company aiming to achieve domestic production of advanced semiconductors, has formed a partnership with the UK Semiconductor Centre. The two countries are also expected to deepen cooperation in advanced technology fields such as artificial intelligence (AI) and quantum computing.

On defense, both sides affirmed that security in the 'Euro-Atlantic' and 'Indo-Pacific' regions is inseparable.
