(Taipei, October 17, CNA reporter Hung Su-chin) Japanese pop icon Kudo Shizuka made a special appearance today as Chibi Maruko-chan, showcasing a three-dimensional character costume she personally designed. She revealed she will return to Taipei on October 24 for a rock concert, joking, "My stage performance won't lose to Maruko's."
Kudo attended the press conference for the '40th Anniversary of the Original Chibi Maruko-chan' exhibition. Dressed identically to Maruko, she shared that Maruko is her favorite character: "I often work hard without taking breaks, and I really want to learn from Maruko how it's okay to relax and enjoy life without striving every day."
Visiting Taiwan for the Maruko exhibition, Kudo unveiled her cross-genre creation: a 3D costume titled "Maruko's Shining Stage." On-site, she explained her design philosophy, stating she wanted to give Maruko a cooler image. "I'm wearing the same outfit as Maruko today—it was actually me who designed it first, then had a tailor make an identical version for me to wear and present to everyone. I've also incorporated Maruko's signature red elements into this design."
Speaking about Maruko's cool and stylish look, Kudo announced her upcoming concert in Taipei on October 24. "The theme is rock style. My stage won't be outdone by Maruko's," she declared confidently. (Edited by Li Heng-shan) 1150617
