(Central News Agency reporter Yu Kai-hsiang, Taipei, June 17) The Air Force announced today that an F-16V fighter jet based at Hualien Base, while conducting emergency runway takeoff and landing drills in the afternoon, likely approached at too low an altitude, causing the landing gear tires to scrape a streetlight cover. Regarding damage to public infrastructure and civilian vehicles, the Air Force stated it will form a special task force to investigate the incident and will compensate and restore damages according to regulations.

The Air Force Command issued a press release in the evening, stating that an F-16V (Block 20) fighter jet at Hualien Base, during afternoon emergency runway takeoff and landing exercises, likely approached at too low an altitude, resulting in the landing gear tires scraping a streetlight cover. The Air Force has already dispatched a special investigation team to clarify the cause. Additionally, for damages to public facilities and civilian vehicles, the Air Force will provide compensation and restoration in accordance with regulations.
