TAIPEI (Central News Agency reporter Yeh Su-ping) — President Lai Qingde, who concurrently chairs the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), stated today that continuous rainfall may affect vegetable production and distribution, leading to market price fluctuations. He has requested relevant ministries under the Executive Yuan to closely monitor vegetable prices and, if necessary, activate response measures to stabilize market supply and demand as well as prices, ensuring that daily consumer life remains unaffected.
Speaking at today’s DPP Central Executive Committee meeting, President Lai noted that last week’s plum rain front brought abundant rainfall, replenishing reservoir levels and improving water supply stability.
However, Lai warned that prolonged rain could disrupt vegetable production and distribution, potentially causing price volatility. He emphasized that relevant Executive Yuan agencies must continue monitoring vegetable prices and stand ready to implement measures to stabilize supply, demand, and pricing, safeguarding consumer welfare. He also urged party members to promptly report any public concerns.
Additionally, Lai mentioned that the upcoming Dragon Boat Festival holiday, starting this Friday, requires thorough traffic planning and public guidance from relevant Executive Yuan agencies to ensure safe and smooth travel for those returning home or traveling.
Lai advised the public, whether traveling for family reunions or leisure, to check traffic information and road conditions before departure, follow traffic rules, and prioritize driving safety. He extended his best wishes to all travelers, hoping they enjoy a warm and pleasant Dragon Boat Festival holiday. (Edited by Su Chih-tsung) 1150617
