Taipei Zoo Flooded by Heavy Rain, Reptile House Temporarily Closed

"It's not the Dragon Boat Festival flooding Jinshan Temple, but the zoo being flooded," the Taipei Zoo announced on Facebook, stating that the Reptile House and the basement of the Education Center are temporarily closed. The zoo said that heavy afternoon downpours in recent days have caused flooding in many areas of the park, but fortunately, no animals were affected.

The Taipei Zoo posted on Facebook last night, announcing that to maintain the facility's environment, the Amphibian and Reptile House will be temporarily closed starting today. The reading room on the basement level of the Education Center and the "Elephant Footprints, Elephant Forward" special exhibition will also be closed from today until July 1.

The zoo explained that due to recent heavy rains, flooding has occurred in many parts of the park, with water seeping into the basement of the Education Center. The ceiling in the Reptile House even collapsed due to moisture, but no animals were affected, so visitors can rest assured.

Taipei experienced heavy rain yesterday due to the vigorous development of afternoon convective cloud systems, with the Beizheng Junior High School weather station in Wenshan District recording 62 millimeters of rainfall between 2 PM and 3 PM. The Central Weather Administration of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications has issued a heavy rain advisory for the greater Taipei area today. The Taipei City Office for Disaster Prevention and Relief stated that there will be afternoon thundershowers, with maximum hourly rainfall expected to reach 60 millimeters in various districts.
