(CNA reporter Chiu Tzu-yin Taipei, June 18) The Taipei Performing Arts Center (TPAC) and the All-People Theatre Company announced today their collaboration on the annual immersive fixed-run drama "Shilin YES!", which will transform floors 1 to 4 of the TPAC into a time-space portal, leading audiences back to the Shilin Night Market of the 1990s.
The press conference announcing the event was held today at the TPAC. Chairman Wang Wen-yi stated in her speech, "TPAC has always upheld the spirit of 'seeing a broader world.' By opening the black box of the theater with the All-People Theatre Company, audiences will not only witness the liveliness of the Shilin Night Market but also discover the everyday stories and urban historical changes that lie beneath the surface of the night market."
All-People Theatre Company Director Hsieh Nien-tsu stated in his speech, "This performance will lead audiences across 30 years of time and space limitations, reconnecting them with their personal youth memories and urban history amidst familiar food aromas and melodies of the era."
Taipei City Department of Cultural Affairs Commissioner Tsai Ping-kun stated that Shilin is rich in humanities and history, a unique place where tradition and modernity, common people's lives and artistic energy converge. "Shilin YES!" is not only a tribute to urban culture but also represents imagination for the future.
"Shilin YES!" is set in the Shilin Night Market in 1990, recounting the night market culture nurtured by the "Ghost Market" near the temple, the glory of Shilin Paper in the industrial era, and the youthful vitality carried by the folk song Western restaurants.
"Shilin YES!" will be performed at the TPAC from November 20 to 29. (Editor: Yang Sheng-ru) 1150618
