(CNA reporter Chang Jung-hsiang Tainan June 18) A 44-year-old man surnamed Jen in Tainan yesterday drove a motorcycle with a passenger, a 36-year-old man surnamed Lin, while under the influence of drugs. When stopped by police in Annan District, they attempted to flee. A police officer tackled them to the ground and made the arrest, also seizing drugs. After questioning, they were sent for prosecution.
The Tainan City Police Department's Third Precinct told CNA today that Jen was driving a motorcycle with Lin as a passenger yesterday afternoon when he was weaving erratically on Anzhong Road in Annan District. Police immediately signaled for them to stop. Jen pretended to comply and pull over, but then accelerated in an attempt to escape. A police officer tackled the motorcycle, arresting both men. The officer sustained minor injuries to his limbs and was taken to the hospital.
In addition, police found three bags of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia on Jen. Both Jen and Lin tested positive for methamphetamine in their urine. After questioning, police transferred them to the Tainan District Prosecutor's Office for investigation on charges including drug offenses and endangering public safety. (Editor: Lung Po-an) 1150618
