TAIPEI, June 18 — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) announced today that 30 Taiwan-made electric buses introduced to Paraguay have all entered operation. During his visit to the South American ally, Deputy Foreign Minister Chen Ming-chi reviewed the progress of the electric bus pilot project and personally boarded a bus to inspect its operation.
According to a MOFA press release, Chen led a delegation to Paraguay on the 15th, accompanied by Paraguay's Vice Minister of Public Works, Emiliano Fernández. They examined the performance of the Taiwan-made buses and experienced their operation firsthand. Vice Minister Fernández noted that the buses have been widely praised by Paraguayan citizens for their smooth ride, comfortable seating, and effective air conditioning. The buses, which produce no noise or pollution, have brought a brand-new experience to Paraguay's transportation development.
During the site visit, Chen and his party rode a bus on an urban route in Asunción, testing the electronic payment system and interviewing passengers. Commuters expressed that the Taiwan-made buses provide unprecedented comfort and hoped for continued introductions. The pilot project was launched in 2025 under the leadership of Minister Lin Chia-lung, with all 30 vehicles entering service by March this year. Both countries will continue to promote smart transportation solutions to help Paraguay achieve its national goals for a green transportation transition.
