Pingtung: 70-Year-Old Elderly Woman Living Alone Found Deceased in Ditch After Going Missing

(Central News Agency, reporter Huang Yu-ching, Pingtung County, June 18) Ms. Chen, a 76-year-old woman living alone in Kanding Township, Pingtung, had an appointment with a friend on the 16th but did not show up and could not be reached. Police reviewed surveillance footage and found that the woman had not returned home after leaving that day. She was eventually found with her motorcycle in a ditch next to the Kanding gas station, and the woman was deceased.

The Donggang Precinct of the Pingtung County Government Police Bureau announced today that they received a report on the afternoon of the 17th that a Ms. Chen, an elderly woman living alone in their jurisdiction, was missing. They immediately reviewed surveillance footage to search for her and found that Ms. Chen was riding a motorcycle on Zhongzheng Road in Kanding Township from west to east towards Chaozhou at around 7:25 AM on the 16th.

The Donggang Police Precinct stated that at 4:57 PM yesterday, Ms. Chen and her motorcycle were found in a roadside ditch in front of the CPC Kanding Gas Station. After the fire department arrived to provide medical assistance, Ms. Chen had no vital signs. The exact cause of death has been reported to the Pingtung District Prosecutor's Office for an autopsy to clarify.

Zheng Guangming, village chief of Yuanliao Village, told Central News Agency reporters that Ms. Chen had an appointment with a friend to sing karaoke at noon on the 16th. When she did not show up at the appointed time and could not be reached by phone at home, her family sought his assistance, and the family reported her missing. The next day, after police reviewed surveillance footage, the woman's son deduced her likely route and searched along the way, eventually finding the woman's motorcycle in the grass of a ditch.
