(Central News Agency, Reporter Zhang Qian, Hong Kong, June 18) A torrential rain suddenly hit Hong Kong today. The Hong Kong Observatory issued the most severe Black Rainstorm Warning after noon, and the authorities immediately announced the suspension of classes for primary and secondary schools. In addition, the authorities requested employers to suspend outdoor work for their employees.

The torrential rain approached Hong Kong before noon. The Observatory successively issued Yellow, Red, and Black Rainstorm Warnings according to their severity, and issued a special report on flooding in the northern New Territories, stating that the area was being affected by heavy rain.

According to the Hong Kong Rainstorm Warning levels, the Black Rainstorm Warning is the most severe, with rainfall exceeding 70 millimeters.

After the Observatory issued the Black Rainstorm Warning, the relevant departments announced the suspension of classes for primary and secondary schools in the afternoon, and requested employers to make proper arrangements for outdoor workers to help them find safe shelters.

In addition, drawing on past experiences of flooding in some stations during heavy rain, the MTR Corporation immediately closed some stations, including some entrances to Sham Shui Po Station, Choi Hung Station, Wong Tai Sin Station, and Quarry Bay Station.

Affected by the Black Rainstorm Warning, the Judiciary announced that all hearings after noon today have been postponed.

As of 3 p.m., except for the New Territories, there were no reports of severe flooding in other areas of Hong Kong, and the flooding situation in the New Territories did not cause significant damage. (Editor: Zhou Huiying) 1150618
