(Central News Agency, Taipei, June 18) MAC Minister Chiu Chui-cheng stated today that five groups signed contracts with the mainland at the Straits Forum, and he will ask the Ministry of Agriculture to investigate and deal with the matter. MAC Deputy Minister and Spokesperson Liang Wen-chieh further explained that the government needs to understand the content of the contracts and their impact on Taiwan's agriculture. The Ministry of Agriculture is currently looking into this.
The Straits Forum recently concluded, and a signing ceremony for agricultural and fishery product matchmaking was held, announcing that mainland China will purchase Taiwanese products such as Taitung's pineapple soursop and Pingtung's grouper. Cross-strait enterprises also signed letters of intent for cooperation at the event.
Chiu Chui-cheng emphasized in an interview with "POP News" today that the Straits Forum is a united front platform for Taiwan. The CCP aims to showcase great exchanges and great cooperation, which is infiltration and division against Taiwan, and ultimately to eliminate the Republic of China. He also revealed that five groups signed contracts at the event and requested the Ministry of Agriculture to investigate and deal with the matter.
Liang Wen-chieh further explained at the MAC's regular press conference today that these five groups are the "Taiwan Agricultural Products Joint Marketing Cooperative," "Hsieh Chun Aquatic Products," "Nantou County Farmers' Association," "Tian Wei Agricultural Technology," and "Hualien County Farmers' Association." They claimed to have signed contracts to export agricultural and fishery products from Taiwan to the mainland.
Liang Wen-chieh stated that for the government, what it wants to know is the content of the contracts, how much is ordered from the mainland each year, what the supply chain is, and whether there is any impact on Taiwan's agriculture. The government must grasp this matter. This part is currently being investigated by the Ministry of Agriculture. (Editor: Chen Kai-yu) 1150618
